Ken Monteith was born in St. Thomas, and raised on the family farm on Fingal Line in Southwold Township, Elgin County. He attended S. S. # 14 Southwold School and St. Thomas Collegiate Institute and graduated in 1957 from Western Ontario Agriculture School (now Ridgetown Campus of University of Guelph). Ken was employed by Ontario Department of Highways-Forestry Crew.  Ken farmed full time 1965 – 1988, and is still farming a little. Ken married Luella in 1963 and have 3 children, Ken, Paul and Janet and 7 grandchildren.

Ken was the Member of Parliament for Elgin-Norfolk 1988 – 1993.  While a Member, he held many positions: member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Member and Chair PC Agriculture Caucus Canada, chaired several Legislative Committees and Appointed to Serve (on occasion) as Speaker House of Commons.
